All in all, I can highly recommend this hostel. I stayed in a six-bed dorm, and while the bed was a bit short for my nearly two meters (6'7"), for under $40, including a generous breakfast and (unofficial) dinner, you really can't complain.

The staff was also very friendly and helpful.

For those who need it, there's also a laundry service available for $5 per load.
I called early in the morning and spoke with Jimmy. He said that they were booked, but he had a separate “Chalet” building that he would only rent me after I looked at it. I asked if I could reserve it anyway and he said that I would have to come look at it first. When I finally arrived at the hostel to view the space and rent it I was told that Jimmy was resting and to wait for him on the porch. While waiting he came outside and started tooling around with no intention of addressing me. When I approached him to ask to see the Chalet space he acted super weird and started talking about camping and not going anywhere near the main building. When I expressed my confusion he said “well that’s why I told you probably not to come.” In fact that’s the opposite of what he had said which was he would only rent me the chalet space after I came to look at it. Overall after a long day of pct hiking and an hour bus shuttle ride to “come look first” it was a pretty weird experience. 0/10 would recommend dealing with a business that operates in this way. Also place was falling apart.

Incredibly hospitable. Breakfast and dinner included. Super cozy and fun atmosphere. Laundry (5$) and showers. Clean.

Also some of the most comfortable beds I've ever been on, in a hostel.

Absolutely you should stay here!

It's a hostel so don't book it thinking it's fancy accommodation but the vibe and St Jimmy make 100% worth the visit. Honestly if I'm ever going through this town again this is probably where I would stay.

A cool place, run by a cool guy, and full of cool people! Jimmy went out of his way to make everything great, including breakfasts and dinners. The bus picks up at the end of the driveway. The bed was only okay (I don't care for memory foam), but everything else was fantastic!

Great for the price. If you want something private it may not be your cup of tea. Rooms are private the kitchen, and lodging area are very close to rooms. Great atmosphere and good service. My husband and I stayed here for our 2 years anniversary.

Cute old hostel! Prime location. The room was comfortable. The upkeep inside isn’t the best. Came down for hot cocoa and boy was that a surprise! The box of cocoa powder mix on the breakfast table had been attacked by mice. 🐁 def would caution eating there. We brought our own cereal for breakfast and went out for meals.

Nice room with shared kitchen and lots of amenities plus it’s so closed to the Village (shopping center), and free breakfast. It was so nice, quiet, and peaceful. We did really enjoy our stay. Highly recommend.

I spent one night at this lovely hostel by chance. The staff and ambiance were great. I wish I could stay a few more nights, but the beds weren't very comfortable, so I stayed one night. Still, it was worth it.

I now know why this place gets the reviews it does. Definitely here on a quiet/slow night. Jimmy was awesome. Definitely cared about my safety. The accommodations were clean(sheets) but the room definitely could use a good dusting. Wifi wasn't working during my stay. The bathroom was clean as was the kitchen and other common spaces. No issue with parking but I could see it being tight during high season. Its just outside of "town/village", but convenient.

staff - incredible.
location - unbelievable! walking to all the shops and restaurants, which i call restaurant row, maybe 15 minutes at the most.
Jimmy, Adrian and Amanda were to friendly and helpful. like genuinely good people who honestly care. they may be towards the end of the list. i am lucky to have met them.
the cabin is like a manison cabin. huge "music" room. large rec room with pool table, cards, board games and tv.
it is, however, an old cabin building. it's not new construction. it gets cleaned every day, but it's old...what'cha gonna do?
bring ear phones and or headphones. sometimes people listen to youtube till late... and bring and extra towel so if you get a lower bunk you can give yourself more privacy. I was in my little cave. I didn't feel bad if I was on my phone playing games late cause the light didn't get out much at all.
ENJOY IT!!!
SO WORTH IT.
ps. check with them about parking if there is snow on the road!

We stayed here for one night back on July 29th to July 30th and thought the cabin was pleasant enough, especially considering the price. But unfortunately I cannot recommend you stay here. My mom, my partner, and I booked and had pre-paid for our rooms via Agoda since we were traveling in from another country. Upon arrival, they took our credit cards for the guarantee deposit for the 2 rooms. The hostel staff assured us it would be refunded after the check out. After we left, they charged my mom TWICE for the fee (USD 80.63 and USD 99.41). We called shortly after. Never heard back. Emailed several times, never heard back. My partner then left a voicemail and we never heard back. He texted the woman who specifically double charged us. She replied on September 17th, nearly 2 months later and said she’d take care of it. Then ghosted us for 5 more days and never refunded the second charge. These people stole our money and then ignored countless emails, voicemails, and texts. Stay away from this place!!!! They practice dishonest business!

I’ll start off by saying, I’m new to staying in hostels. That being said, Chaz made the whole experience amazing! One of the most down to earth and chill people ever. The lodge is also amazing, way bigger than you think. Tons of stuff to do and tons of room to do absolutely nothing in the same stay. Love it and will definitely be back!

Welcoming host. Good location and very beautiful and vintage lobby. Room was very clean, we liked this place however fan wasn’t helpful to make the room cool and cord passing from one side to other side which was dangerous. We had body wash in shower but no soap in toilet. Overall it was good for the price and location.

I am a PCT hiker. ITH advertise on THEIR website that PCT hikers have a flat rate of 25$ for a bunk. I made a reservation for a bunk but didn't know how to add the PCT discount.
When I arrived and checked in I asked about the PCT discount. The lady working the front desk said she didn't know anything about it. I showed her the website and she said she didn't know how to change it . She asked me if I could wait to check in my room until she got ahold of someone that could help her. 2 hours later. Still waiting and I realized the lady working the front desk is gone and a new person is working. I ask him about my room and tell him about the PCT discount online. He also says he doesn't know about it. So I once again show him the website.
Ultimately he refuses to give me the room at the advertised price and tells me the information on the website is old. I ask " is ALL the information on your website out dated?" He said " no the information on the website is correct except the price for PCT hikers".
I ended up staying bc I was really sick and just needed a bed.
The whole thing was BS!!!!
They don't even honor their own prices as advertised on their own website

This spot is really lovely- wonderful staff, great atmosphere, and really beautiful, clean amenities. Plus, the location is fantastic. If you're looking for a mixture of hostel community and privacy (the rooms all have their own locks, so you aren't sharing), then this is the spot for you! It's perfect for ski/snowboard season, or lake season!
Stayed there just recently. Booked for 2 nights when arrived host charged me twice! When I wanted to stay near by fireplace he was bothered by it because he didn't want to sit on reception and wanted to sit near by fireplace but I guess ALONE. So I went to my room which is not fresh at all and bathroomd not clean compare to Big Bear hostel which is much cheaper 100% cleaner and just clean in general with parking and etc. in ITH hostel only dog Yogy is worth of visiting. Nothing else. Better to book big Bear hostel trust me.

Day One:
bit by dog (I love dogs)

Day two:
Marley GM got bit by dog, sends her to hospital

Myself and 3 others get chemical burns from the hot tub

Day three:
Fat from the uncleaned grill catches fire and is a serious incident and near miss

Day four:
I’m asked to leave by Jackie after making a report.

Cool hostel, garbage experience handled even more inappropriately by inexperienced managers

This place is absolutely fantastic. Perfect to enjoy the mountain vibes in the rustic rooms, bask in the spa under the stars and hang out playing some pool. Also has really great information about all the local hikes nearby. The friendly greetings each day from the local “guard” dog were always warm. Would recommend this to anyone.

It's a wooden building in a state of decline. Dorm bed was clean with very soft saggy mattress. Good breakfast and a bonus barbecue on a saturday night. Just bring beer. Free tea and coffee all day. Hot showers. I tort it had a bit of a cleanliness issue with the floors outside of bins spiders webs etc but it is cheap. The staff are super friendly and make your stay enjoyable. There is a new building next door with better cleaner rooms but it is what it is. Location is good for walking into town for bars stores and restaurants. You can rent kayaks at the hostel and its near the lake with nice view from the front porch. Relax and enjoy

This is a well overdue review but thank you to Jackie and nick for making my time there so comfortable. This is a great location to stay in big bear, especially on a budget. One of the better hostels I've been to, great living areas with games and entertainment. The supplied bedding was nice and comfortable, and we stayed at a nice temperature at night. I'm only giving four stars because there were no single use towels, which in a hostel setting is pretty odd. They even had a sign on the wall that told you not to share towels to prevent the spread of the norovirus. Other than that, it was a nice stay.

Beautiful hostel! I had a wonderful time staying here, the staff was fantastic, the location is perfect and most importantly it was clean. Cant wait to go back!
I wasn't sure what to expect when visiting ITH Big Bear. Initially I thought it was just a good deal. However, this place surpassed all expectations. The staff are great, the beds are super comfortable, and the vibes are immaculate. This place isn't a hostel - it's an experience. Making plans to go back ASAP.

If you are looking for a solid bang for your buck place to stay, traveling solo, or just want to have a wholesome experience - ITH Big Bear is the place.

Cheers to Bruno and friends for making it possible.
Best hostel experience I’ve ever had! The staff was super friendly (Adrian and Bruno were incredibly helpful!) The hostel was clean and cozy. Beds were comfy, showers were clean and had great water pressure. The game room and great room were perfect for kickin back and relaxing. Less than a 5 minute walk from the village which has great food and bars. I’d choose this hostel over any of the hotels nearby (even if those hotels weren’t 10 times more expensive.) I couldn’t have asked for a better stay! Thank you ITH! I’ll be back for ski season!

Came here just to camp at a nice spot and a view and this place far exceeded any expectations. The amenities at this hostel are amazing; instruments, billiards, and included breakfast. Staff are great and really nice (stupidly unprepared for how cold sleeping outside would be, they helped me with a ton of warm blankets). I've worked in Hostels before, this place is special. Thanks guys 😁
We loved ITH and will be back. It was affordable, comfortable and I loved the community vibe. The fireplace was a plus as well. The staff was wonderful. If you're looking for a high-end hotel move on - if you want something more homey and warm, this is the place!
