After over a year of operating as the Surf City Hostel, International Travelers House has changed its Hermosa Beach location to ITH Los Angeles Beach Hostel. Since launching its first location in San Diego in 2012, the ITH brand has expanded throughout California and Mexico. Eight of the nine ITH properties are in California, with the company’s lone international location stationed in Sayulita, Mexico. The ITH Los Angeles Beach Hostel was their seventh location. It is located at 26 Pier Avenue, in Hermosa Beach, and will remain in the same iconic building connected to The Lighthouse Cafe, which hosted the producers of LaLa Land when they filmed in 2015.
Co-founder Bobby Dyer explained that the name change from Surf City Hostel to Los Angeles Beach Hostel was done to attract a broader and more international crowd. “Hermosa Beach is in Los Angeles but people from the surrounding area might not associate it with LA. We wanted to create a name (Los Angeles Beach Hostel) that was more distinguishable to LA, especially to our international travelers.”
While people come to Southern California to surf, the waves at Hermosa Beach are not as surfer-friendly as they are elsewhere. With the name change, ITH looks to attract a more diverse group of travelers visiting Los Angeles looking for affordable accommodations.
