Calling all musicians, poets, and comedians! Santa Barbara is a hub for fun and entertainment, and the town features a handful of open mics and live music performances throughout the week. This is a great way to explore the area and get to know some of the local spots that are off the beat.
In this piece, we’ll outline where to find live music and open mics in Santa Barbara.
Start the week off right by heading over to Whiskey Richards. This Santa Barbara bar usually hosts their open mics every Monday. They are located right on State Street, so walking to Whiskey Richards from our Beach Hostel is easy. With pool tables and a lot of space to mingle, Whiskey Richards is a great local spot to hang out and meet people. Check their website or Instagram for extra information on the open mics before heading down!
On Wednesdays, Wylde Works hosts an awesome open mic that features musicians and poets. People come early for this one, so make sure to sign up in advance if you’d like to perform. Wylde Works also will feature special events, so keep an eye on their calendar to see what’s coming ahead! The theme at Wylde Works is all about honey and fermentation, and they brew their own stuff on-site. Available for purchase are wine, mead, and different kombucha options. Bring your friends to this one and support local artists!

We would recommend heading over to The Good Lion for not only awesome cocktails but also live music. They often host performers on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but a great way to keep tabs on their schedule is through their Twitter page. Come thirsty, and stay for a show!
Another great spot to check out in Santa Barbara for live music is The James Joyce. This funky bar has an old-school feel, and they are known to host musicians throughout the week. Check out their calendar to see their listings for live performances!
