Since COVID-19, the digital nomad life has grown increasingly popular. We’ve compiled a list of eight cities that make great digital nomad destinations, considering what they have to offer in terms of exciting events, outdoor activities and city perks.
1. St. Augustine, Florida
St. Augustine is a beautiful small town with so much to offer. Founded in 1565 by Spanish explorers, the city has nearly 500 years of history, as it is the oldest continuously-inhabited European-established city in the United States. Its unique architecture and tranquil vibe is similar to small towns in Spain. There is an enjoyable warm climate in the winter, beautiful beaches, rich history and amazing restaurants for travelers to enjoy. Set up for work in one of the many cute cafés by the beach and enjoy the view!
2. Austin, Texas
The Texan capital of Austin has consistently been voted one of the best places to live in the United States, based on its affordability and quality of life. The city is best known for its live music and booming cultural scene. It also has amazing nature with great parks, river access and hiking trails. The city is home to many friendly, artistic people and offers many coworking spaces with high speed internet access, including the popular fibercove.
3. San Diego, California
With the perfect mix of nature and city, there is plenty to do in San Diego. From parks, to mountains, to beaches, to cliffs, there are many outdoor activities to engage in if you need a break from the city. Digital nomads can stay at any ITH location and meet other like-minded people. The city remains relatively warm in the winter, and a great destination for digital nomads to come to learn how to surf. San Diego is also home to great nightlife, especially in the Gaslamp District and Pacific Beach.
4. Nashville, Tennessee
Known for its country music, Nashville is one of the great digital nomad destinations for nomads who like live music, great food and friendly people. This vibrant city is packed with cultural landmarks and outdoor activities. Experience nature driving down any back road, or take a short trip outside of the city to any of Tennessee’s beautiful lakes.
5. Denver, Colorado
Also a great mix of nature and city, Denver is home to breathtaking Rocky Mountains, rivers and plains as well as a vibrant city that attracts people from all over the world. If you don’t mind the cold and love the outdoors, Denver is a great place to settle down for a bit. Ski or snowboard at any mountain range, explore downtown or take a hike. During the end of November through the beginning of January, be sure to visit Blossoms of Light, Denver Botanic Gardens’ signature event.
6. Chicago, Illinois
If you’re a digital nomad who enjoys big cities and cold weather, Chicago is the place to be. The city offers a wide variety of landmarks, such as Millenium Park, and a rich nightlife. It is also a great place to be around Christmas time, as you can warm up with a cup of hot cider in the Christkindlmarket or get an amazing view of the city at one of the many rooftop bars decorated for the season.
7. New York City, New York
New York City is one of the great digital nomad destinations for winter, especially come Christmas time. There is always something going on, so be sure to check Dice for different events in the city. NYC offers some of the best shopping that the U.S. has to offer as well as amazing cuisine. Although there isn’t much nature in the city aside from Central Park, you can easily escape the city for a weekend to visit places like Bear Mountain State Park or Fort Montgomery.
8. Charleston
Charleston is an affordable, tranquil place for nomads to stay and work. The city has a special southern charm filled with history, a multitude of colors and unique architecture. Stroll down the historic King Street or take a horse carriage ride. In the winter, Charleston temperatures remain quite warm.
