San Diego may be known for its pristine beaches and fiery sunsets, but there is much more to do in this vibrant city than just that. Check out some of our recommendations for the more unique experiences in San Diego!

1. Ho Chi Minh Trail in La Jolla

If you’re looking to get active while also experiencing one of the most picturesque places San Diego has to offer, this trail is perfect for you. Spanning less than a mile, the multitude of rocks and cliffs are perfect to hang out by while taking some pictures.

2. Go whale watching

San Diego is amongst the most popular destinations for viewing wildlife, as its rich environment is home to a myriad of marine animals. The best time to go whale watching is typically mid-December through mid-March. During this time, the whales migrate from Alaska to Mexico and back. Winter is the perfect time to cruise with expert crew while enjoying the ocean breeze and the gentle giants of the sea.

3. Soar over Temecula’s wineries in a hot air balloon

See California from a brand new perspective with this once-a-lifetime experience just outside of San Diego. Sit back, sip some bubbly and enjoy the views from 2,000 feet above ground in a hot air balloon. Experience the panoramic view of the vineyards and rolling hills any time of the year.

4. Snorkel in La Jolla

Why gaze at the sea lions if you can swim with them? Hop in the water at La Jolla Cove or explore the seven sea caves that line the cliffs east of the cove. Snorkeling is a great family-friendly activity for all year round, although you may want to wear a wetsuit in the winter!

5. Experience live entertainment in the Gaslamp District

The Gaslamp District is one of the best places to go out in San Diego, especially when it comes to enjoying live music. Sing along to the piano songs at the Shout House or sit back and enjoy the live music at Tin Roof. If you love live music and fine dining, you can also check out Il Sogano Italiano.

6. Have a laugh at a comedy club

American Comedy Co. hosts many well-known stand up comedians in the famous Gaslamp Quarter. If you’re interested in improv comedy, head over to National Comedy Theater where the cast performs based on audience suggestions.

7. Ride a horse at Imperial Beach

If you’re looking for a unique beach experience, head over to Imperial Beach. Pony Land offers an experience that is perfect for families and people of all ages. This experience allows you to explore San Diego in a peaceful, unique way. As you ride along the beach, you may even spot some wildlife.
