Things to do During the Day

Nothing says summer and celebration like sitting out on the lake with something cold to drink. Start your day off by taking a swim in the lake, renting a kayak or paddleboard, or hopping on a boat with some friends. The 4th of July is a day of relaxation and fun, and what better way to do that than to be out on the water?

At 11 a.m., the Independence Day Fair begins. This event features art, crafts, and other artisanal goods from local purveyors. Everything from vintage clothing and home-made jewelry will be on sale. Also throughout the day, there will be live music and food for sale at the fair. Admission to the fair is free. It will be held at the corner of Big Bear Blvd. and Division Dr.

Between all the water fun and the festival, get out on a hike before the fireworks. Big Bear Lake is home to several incredible hiking trails, giving you plenty of options to choose from.

It should be noted that fireworks are not allowed in Big Bear Lake. The town puts on its own display, which is safe and controlled. Leave the fireworks up to the professionals!

Big Bear Lake is one of the best places to watch the fireworks since they are launched from the lake, making them viewable from almost anywhere in the valley. The show begins at 8:45 p.m. and lasts for roughly thirty minutes. We recommend finding a picnic table or place to sit along the lake and enjoy the show.

A great place to view the fireworks show is at our ITH Big Bear Hostel. With cozy seating and a sprawling property, our hostel is a great place to unwind while you watch the show. We have billiards, a free pancake breakfast, and plenty of space to kick back and unwind.
