i have to warn the fellow traveler, if you respect your health, might take another look around for a safer place to stay. there is a black mold infestation in this hostel. other than that … it’s not bad! the room was pretty much exactly what i needed, save for the spores. i would say, just avoid the single bathrooms — the multi stall bathroom is *less* moldy, but the musty smell does not betray, it’s in there too, and logic would have it, also in the bedrooms that share the walls.

Cheap, clean, great location, staff rocks, Kimberly welcomed me in amazing vibes and everyone was awesome all around, breakfast is great, can't beat it! Highly recommend!

Huge huge huge props to Steve. Felt awful after a bad sleep the night before, and only charged the difference to move me to a private room which was great. Great location, great service and clean. 10/10 will stay again.

Such a great experience. The rooms were clean and had a decent amount of storage. Staff was amazing, and the location was great- 5 minute walk from great restaurants in Little Italy and a 15/20 minute drive to beaches. Definitely would stay again

I had a great stay here. Staff was super friendly. I like that the beds have curtains for privacy. They offer free pancakes every morning which is nice. The location is super convenient and in walking distance to many great spots and attractions.

This is the only hostel I will stay on in San Diego because not only are the hotels wooden bunk beds less noisy then the metal ones that most hostels provide but they have a curtain for privacy. No more using a sheet like did for years traveling around the world. Plus most importantly there are plugs for your phone and other electronics IN YOUR BUNK BED. That is truly rare! You can store your stuff below your bunk in a slide out drawer that you can lock. It’s so convenient! It’s also a very convenient location with beautiful interior with washers/dryers for decent price. Multiple bathrooms which is even more rare. No more waiting for one bathroom. They have many stalls. An outside smoking area is provided as well. Very close to everything and most importantly you truly feel safe in this hostel. As a girl, that’s ideal.

The hostel is in a good location, at the heart of San Diego. That’s pretty much all the positive that i can think of though. Maybe this is a decent place to be if you are looking to interact with other travellers. The rooms were bad, with thin walls, could hear even whispers from the neighbours! And the apartment shakes every time someone walks, it seemed pretty old. Looks cute from the outside however. I am sure i could have found a far better place with the money i paid, totally wasn’t worth it!

It's disgusting how they are still operating.
The curtains to your bed/bunk are broken and held together by paper clips.
There are no sockets to charge your phone in the dormitory
There are only 2 showers for atleast 20 people leading to a line up every morning.
Only positive things are the location in core downtown near little italy and the service by the agent who checked me in

Steve is amazing! I walked into this hostel with a warm welcome 🙂 I came in with multiple requests, and he was able to resolve them very friendly and quickly. I greatly appreciate him, as he made my stay very comfortable and welcoming. Thanks to him, I will return and recommend this spot to friends traveling to San Diego.

Room was clean, bed linens looked new/fresh. The bathrooms could use a detailed cleaning. Stayed one night, breakfast included 7-9. Only thing coffee was missing - 2 pots of cold, day old. Staff was no where to be seen (until 9:30)and sign said to have them make the coffee. They did store our bags for the day as we had a late flight out. The location was great and close to waterfront area.
Loved my stay! I reserved the full size bed in the annex for my weekend stay for CRSSD fest at the waterfront park. The hostel wasn't busy this weekend so they upgraded me to the Queen bed room in the main house. Which was perfect for getting ready for the festival.
Sante, Dave, Erik, Adriana and Selah were all very gracious hosts and care takers of the building.

It's an old victorian/Edwardian so it has that old building charm. It was obvious they prioritized keeping the premises meticulously clean at all times. Which was really nice. When you have old building maintenance really is the thing to focus on. It was a cold weekend and the room was nice and cozy. Black curtains, a TV, mini fridge, clothing rack, table and comfy bed. Nothing fancy but had what I needed and definitely super comfortable.

I would definitely recommend staying here. What I saw of the bunk rooms was cozy and clean too. They have a main room to hang out but the space is mostly a pool table. If I had a suggestion I would replace the pool table with a fousball table and get some yoga mats. A space to stretch when you're doing so much walking feels like a better use of space for travelers.

But otherwise it was lovely.

Of you're traveling from outside San Diego and looking for somewhere fun to socialize for a weekend in San Diego the location in Little Italy is fantastic and close to the trains.

I had such a great stay!
Look forward to coming back!

Pros:
-friendly and communicative staff
-relatively good soundproofing despite communal arrangement. I stayed in the 2-person private dorm, and could not hear any conversation from the co-living dorms across the hall.
-excellent location within walking distance to the gaslamp quarter, Little Italy, and the harbour

Cons:
-cleanliness/maintenance could be improved, as the wooden floors were splintered and stained. Most kitchen surfaces were sticky.
-throughout our entire stay, the upstairs shower was out of order leading to increased bathroom congestion and the inconvenience of going to the main building for a shower.
First time staying in a hostel stateside and I couldn’t have asked for a better one. All of the staff is incredibly helpful. This place is clean and well kept. There wasn’t a moment where I didn’t feel comfortable. Thanks for the jam session Gui. Great experience overall!

The entire process of booking a room, checking in, being shown around the place, and checking out went smoothly without a hitch. All of the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. It was a wonderful congenial atmosphere being in the company of all of the other guests, whom I enjoyed meeting very much. The sleeping quarters were comfortable (I was in a room with several double bunk beds, and the beds had privacy curtains you could pull shut), and there were also lockers which you could put any valuable stuff in. There were plenty of bathrooms and showers - never a need to wait until one was available. Pancake batter was provided every morning with which guests could make their own pancakes (and the pancake batter was delicious); coffee was also provided. I was extremely impressed by how clean all of the facilities were (bathrooms, showers, kitchen, etc.). There was a recreation room with a pool table, TV with streaming services, and even a couple of guitars to play. The location is fabulous - 3 blocks from the Little Italy section of San Diego, plenty of restaurants nearby, small neighborhood markets within a few blocks away in case any supplies were needed, and it was close (within walking distance) to other downtown San Diego attractions (such as the Gaslamp Quarter, which is very lively at night with restaurants, entertainment, etc.). I had my car with me, and I was able to find free parking on the street at night within 1 block of the place on each of the 4 nights I was there. Overall, I absolutely loved the place, I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone else, and I look forward to staying there again!

My week at this hostel was great! The staff was super nice, the kitchen was clean and I don’t think I’ve ever slept as good as I did at the Traveler’s house. I got to know many interesting people and I never got bored or felt alone. There was a nice sense of community. All the free events every night was an added bonus.

My stay this summer at the Hostel was amazing! Little Italy is a very fun neighborhood to be in; from the delicious food to the amazing culture vibe. The managers Kayla and Nathan made it feel as if you were part of the hostel family, don’t know what I would have done without them. Adventure hostel is always clean and the staff is always willing to help you out at anytime. If you stay here download the app circuit for free rides in and out of downtown during your stay. I have had so many memories here and made some friends for life. I will definitely come back and visit when I can. Thank you for hosting me. Love you guys.

We booked the whole house on Front St this past weekend. By far my worst experience as a traveler, we started off with the host being unresponsive about check-in instructions on the VRBO app. I messaged the host 3 days before our check-in to inquire about instructions and I did not hear back from him until I called the number. Once I called the number, they provided instructions over the phone but when I requested them to provide check-in instructions on the app, they stated they didn’t know what app I was referring to.
When we first arrived, the house smelled like Urine, there were huge urine stains in the front stairs. As we went inside the home there was a hole on the door, seemed like they removed the doorknob and just left the hole. This is not what was advertised in the pictures. When we asked about the whole getting sealed one of the hosts representatives gave us attitude and said well, we have cameras. To which we responded, we don’t care about your cameras we care for our safety. She angrily left to get someone to try to fix the hole.
The house was not cleaned at all, there were mouse traps in multiple areas of the home. Throughout the whole home there were a lot of spider webs, kitchen and kitchen utensils were filthy. The house was advertised as fully airconditioned which wasn’t the case, there were only air conditioners in certain rooms. The kitchen table and all the surface areas were sticky to the point you where you would set your arms on the table, and they would get stuck. The pictures did not match what we were greeted with.
There were multiple windows that were either broken, wouldn't close (allowing bugs), or missing entirely. There was one window (hole) that was patched with 2"x4"s and chicken wire.
All in all, I would not recommend this location to anyone.

One of the best Hostels in San Diego. Prime location, next to beautiful Little Italy. Beautiful looking house with lots of character that is kept clean and tidy by the staff. ITH always has an amazing community vibe and the staff at this hostel in particular are very friendly and service oriented. I had a lot of fun going to the bonfires and events they hosted. I would highly recommend staying at this hostel.

Good cozy bed in a good location for a very good price! Good breakfast too! Great staff!
I really like this hostel, the young's staff are really good and super friendly. The kitchen are interely equip, breakfast are good too, the bathroom are decent just missed some soap for travel you know. The bunk bed are correct, but need to repair the metallic ladder are not fixed. One note for the end, the price are cheap pour San Diego. I really recommend this place if you enjoyed talk with strangers 😁
Such a great experience, would recommend this hostel to anyone staying in San Diego! My bed wasn’t ready when I arrived a few hours early so I was able to leave my bag, use the public areas and relax while I waited. Very social space, showers and bathrooms were all very clean, do it yourself breakfast was amazing 🙂

The view from the room and from the hotel in general on the sea is excellent I want to mention the pool, warm, covered, beautiful and almost always nobody in it Breakfast is good, cooked scrambled eggs I want to note the bathroom without a door, the bathroom itself is small, the shower hose is short, with a height of 190 I had to sit down a bit There is no closing toilet lid in the toilet, the whole hotel, out of habit, claps sensationally all the time, I especially liked the pillows, I will buy myself such a house
The room was stinky, the beds were not comfortable. People were doing drugs in the facilities, there were no lockers available, no towels available, the restrooms were also dirty. Thank you for trying to improve but I already went back to San Diego and I booked another place where it was sparkling clean, they had a mich better service, they had lockers available, the beds were more comfortable and the price was lower.

Honestly I don't think i will come back to you guys, there were broken lockers and I had to sleep with my suitcases in my bed, so far it's been one of the worst experiences I've had around the world. Thank you but no thank you.

The house is a nice historic home, nestled in the center of San Diego, close to Little Italy and a few blocks from the trolley system. I enjoyed the shared sleep room, community room, and kitchen. Though breakfast is served most days, I assume, it was not served the morning I left. The staff are attentive, kind, and polite. Enjoy!

Located in a pretty awesome spot near Little Italy. The staff were super friendly (they let me have some of their lasagna) and they had private rooms if you want! Only stayed their for a night though. Rooms have a college house/ hostel vibe.

Pros:
People you meet are unique
Price for a bed is fair
Parking is horrible
Little Italy 3 blocks away
Tour bus comes every week for beach
5 showers & 1tub
Clean towels
Front porch & side patio
Workers are chill
Free pancakes in the A.M.
Netflix, Hulu, Prime
Laundry open
Full kitchen
Coffee
Large dinner table
Piano other music equipment
Walk around with no mask
5 toilets
2 private baths
Lockers

Con:
Bug bits on the arms.
Towels are in low supply
Manger rude to volunteers and customers
Washer are rarely available.

Update:
I booked this place because I was here a year ago. The female volunteer is very uninviting and kind of rude. I had a reservation here and She told me "I suggest you wait until I get back when I ask to go inside" As she went around the corner to take 3 or 4 people to another location. I just needed to use the restroom.
Soft beds, good breakfast, nice amenities, very clean, friendly staff. Love staying here.
I really like this place. Amazing people and environment. The location is near little Italy which allows you to go to the best restaurants and bars in the area just walking!!!

It's a cool spot, a more calm vibe than the ITH in PB. For the most part it was pretty quiet when I stayed there. There are daily activities but a few of the nights were cancelled due to non-participation. One criticism I heard is that not everyone was "friendly" (but my own experience was great). Ultimately there is a bit of luck for any given moment because it involves who checks in, who works at the hostel, and your own effort to meet people. As for amenities, you are close to Gaslamp and Little Italy. The hostel has a unique look and charm. It's got a good location, only 5 min from the airport. I would stay here again!

I have stayed here four times. Each time it is a unique experience. I always felt especially welcome here and staying here has been the greatest stay value in downtown San Diego. I met the most interesting people in the crossroads here on my travels. People from all over the world. The staff has always been so helpful and work very hard to maintain a clean place. The rooms and common areas are all very clean. I could stay here a month if I had the time. One of the best hostels on my travels.

Good location and great people! A super diverse group of staff and guests from all over the US and the world. The building feels very homey and is a great place to hang out. The staff did a good job communicating events with the guests and made me feel very welcome. They were nice to talk with, and helped me with any questions I had. Theres some street noise, but it was no big deal. I used ear plug a few times, mostly for early morning traffic, and slept well every night

The best thing about this hostel is the location in Little Italy. The rooms, however, are very small. The staff does not communicate well and some of the policies are too rigid.

Not recommended.

In 14 years, in traveling all over the world. And staying in hundreds of hostels. This is by far the number one hostel for me, anywhere. What makes it great, is the staff. Lindy, Santi, Tana, Luccila and Diego. They are the real deal. If they ever lose these people. Then it might go down hill. Let's hope not, so fingers crossed

If you like privacy this isn't the place for you! We thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality and fellowship of the staff and guests. Clean bathrooms and bedrooms. Great location. Zoo and Balboa park are in walking distance (about 2 miles), Little Italy is 2 or 3 blocks away with great food and the harbor area is about 8 blocks. Parking is limited so recommend getting reservations at a parking garage nearby

I've stayed in over 40 hostels internationally, and this is in my top 3 favourites! I have renewed my stay multiple times since I'm having such a good time here. Here's some reasons why I love this hostel:
1) Location. This morning, I went with one hostel worker (Tana from the Ivory Coast, best dude ever) and 2 fellow guests to an English pub

BED BUG ALERT!!! INFESTED WITH BED BUGS! All the staff/volunteers KNOW! They don’t tell you and refuse a refund! One of the other residents told me on day 3 after I looked like will smith in the movie hitch!!! My legs, arms, feet, and back were severely bitten 🙁 They are very rude and will not return emails or phone calls, I traveled in from ATL and I drove! All my clothes , blankets, pillows, etc were infested! I have pictures and emails to prove this. DO NOT GO THERE! Room 25&24 are the WORST!
The hostel it’s located in Chinatown and surrounding by an amazing community. Such a beautiful city 😍 such a lovely people🤩.
The hostel service it’s great and the staffs and all team are fabulous. It’s one of the best breakfast i had so far and also, everything is so organized and welcome that made me feel in my home. Thank you so much guys for all the support and love🙏🏼🙌🏼🤩

Not bad for the price but the living space is very tight especially when 50 people are living in a two floor, 6 room building with only 1 kitchen, no dining room, and only 1 living room. Finding power outlets to charge your phone is a fight between the guests. The mattresses are very hard on your back as they do not have springs and the bottom bunk is extremely low to the ground and too tight to sit upright. There are no tables for laptops except the kitchen table. This place is more appropriate for young college kids, not grown adults.
