We do this by immersing guests into our local culture through a variety of daytime and nighttime adventures and providing catered breakfast from a local bakery and hosting communal dinners. The closest hostel to the famous San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park, we are perfect for travelers and students explorers looking to be centrally located. Amazing restaurants, coffee shops, local parks and popular bars surround the hostel. Within minutes from the hostel, travelers can easily access all of San Diego’s top activities.

Our social lounges are equipped with a billiards table, art chalk walls, a TV and multiple couches for your ultimate relaxing space. Our outdoor courtyard is one of our most popular hang out areas and always has a variety of friendly travelers relaxing in the shade.  The library inside the Hostel is perfect for getting work done or planning your next travel move. Our friendly staff create a warm and cozy atmosphere each night where travelers can unwind and share stories about their travels.

San Diego is home to the best weather in America, but for your added comfort, our facilities are all air conditioned in the summer and heated in the winter. We have several room options depending on how your are traveling, including four or six bed dorm style rooms and female only rooms. We have multiple male and female restrooms so guests can always have a hot shower. We also have free Wi-Fi, computers and iPads for guests.

Please note that guests staying at ITH must be over 18 years. International guests with a valid passport and American travelers that reside outside of San Diego County are welcome. We are a house of rest and want to provide a great night sleep each night for our guests, so we kindly ask that all guests staying with us abide by our house rules.

Meal Time

We look at all of our guests as family and with that we happily provide each guest with free breakfast catered from a local bakery. For dinner, our staff and guests often gather together and cook meals from there own countries in our shared guest kitchen. Taco Tuesday is the one evening we don't cook but instead we bring guests to a local Mexican restaurant to enjoy a San Diego tradition.


Our goal is to show guests a unique experience when they choose to stay at an ITH. To ensure the guests get to have a memorable experience, we provide daily daytime and nighttime activities around San Diego showcasing some of the best things to do in the city. Spots are limited so be sure to sign up early.


Situated in San Diego's diverse and hipster neighborhood of Hillcrest, the ITH Zoo Hostel is just steps away from San Diego's best international restaurants and a variety of thrift stores, record stores and cafes. Guests enjoy being in an urban eclectic neighborhood while also being so close to Balboa Park.


Our diverse facilities at the Zoo Hostel offer guests with places to relax inside in our library and social lounge in addition to an amazing courtyard built for enjoying San Diego's perfect sunshine.


Keeping our Hostel clean and neat is what we pride ourselves on and truly the most important element of our Brand. Housekeeping cleans the property twice a day to ensure that all areas of the hostel and spotless and ready for you to enjoy.


As with any shared style accommodation it is always important to provides our guests the peace of mind that they will be safe and secure during their stay with us. Security cameras are setup throughout the property in addition to having privates key codes for each door and lockers where the guests can store their valuable items.

A variety of parking options surround the Zoo Hostel including metered parking spots, paid parking lots and a few limited free parking spaces on nearby streets. All metered parking spots are free during the evenings. Inquire at reception during check-in, and our staff will gladly assist you.
