Well, well, well! You did it, you completed the hard park of deciding to come to our beautiful state of California (congratulations). Now, what are you going to do for that long plane or car ride there? Well if you’re a book nerd like me, nothing makes a trip easier than having a good read along the way. So here is a list of 7 awesome books to consider during your trip to California.
One of Us Is Lying
One of Us Is Lying is one of the BEST, and I do mean the best, YA novels on a murder mystery that occurred at Bayview Highschool leaving four completely different students as suspects. Brownyn “the genius”, Nate “the rebel bad guy”, Coop “Best athlete the school has ever seen” and Addison “Popular girl with a few secrets”.
Simon Asher has a gossip app that he created that tells the secrets of everyone is the school and everyone hates it until one day Simon mysteriously ends up dead in the same room as all four of our main characters. As the teacher rushes back in to see what happened, they see his body shaking on the floor and the mystery begins!
The 4 Hour Work Week
The 4 Hour Work Week is a must read for anyone who wants to change the way they look at life and join what Tim Ferriss has coined as “The New Rich”. The New Rich is a group of people who want to take life by the….. horns, and design their rich life by their own standards.
Whether that is working remote in Italy while your company is in America, or if it is creating your own business so that you can be time and location independent. Perhaps you want to do as Tim does and for every 2 months your work hard on your craft you take one month off to vacation and do whatever you want.
Whatever your desires in life, I guarantee you that this book will help you get there. As Tim says, “everyone thinks they want to be a millionaire, but what they really want is the freedom and lifestyle they believe being a millionaire gets you”.
Tim teaches you how to get there.
The Power of Now
Slow Down. Slow Down.
Eckhart Tolle has produced what has been considered the most foundational and routed book on consciousness and self awareness in the past decade. This book has been life-changing for me personally.
What sets “The Power of Now” apart is, instead of telling you some made up story about people who don’t exist and hope you learn the lessons through metaphor; Tolle gets straight to the point and the nitty gritty of how you make the decisions you make, why you make them, sheds light on where you’re operating from, and gives you insight on how to live in the Now.
You’re A Badass: How To Stop Doubting Greatness and Live an Awesome Life
I think the title speaks for itself. This is for my ladies out there. Do not let society, your boss, your self doubt, or how big a task or dream may seem to keep you from trying.
Jen Sincero does not play any of that “females are inferior” nonsense and she won’t let you subscribe to that either. What I really think is awesome about this book is it isn’t the overbearing and finger-pointing feminism book to cast blame or shade in any other direction. This book is really an awesome and empowering book for women who really want to stop doubting their greatness and live an awesome life.
Ishmael
What would you say if I told you that I could give you the law of the universe that humans broke to ruin the world? What would you say if I told you I could give you the solution to fixing it?
“Teacher seeks PUPIL. Must have an earnest desire to save the world. Apply in person”.
This is the ad seen in the newspaper by the protagonist of our story. Intruiged and a little bit of needing a reason to get away from life, he visits the address. Nothing on earth could prepare him for what he sees when he gets there and begins his journey of learning the history of the world and how to solve the problem of man.
Ishamael is about to teach him how to save the world from ourselves.
The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck
It’s not that deep.
That is the message of this book.
A little bit of sarcasm and a lot of bit of truth and slapping you to wake up out of your self pity party. Mark Manson makes it very easy and very clear that you are a lot more in control of your life than you might think.
A lot of things that folks believe they are suffering from is stuff that they make up in their own head. So, in essence, this book will ultimately teach you to control what you can control and not worry about what you can’t.
Quiet
This is for all my introverts out there. Susan Cain has made a book for all of us who are a little bit more reserved and don’t really feel the need to be loud and boisterous and excessive to feel heard.
This is the book I wanted to read my whole life instead of trying to morph myself into one of those “social media influencers” or “public figures”. Cain really takes a deep dive and proves that being who you are is your superpower. That the introverts of the world are shaking up things just as heavy, if not heavier, than our outspoken counterparts.
How introverts rule the world and make a difference.
